Its a year ’98 ford ranger and the bumper fell off..I don’t have money to spend on a repair. I just have to do it by myself…How do you fix it?

Answer:
First you should beg, borrow or steal a socket wrench! The large bolts are difficult to get to access with a cresent wrench. You need a good hammer With a little UMPH! to bend back the dog ears (Sliding Parts) and then a block of wood to beat the thing back into place.

A little penetrating oil will help everywhere! Get rags to clean every oily thing up. lot of oil with steel work is usually a good thing.. I believe starting in 97 everything has an air bag. I’m not sure where the sensors that detect shock (Impacts) I was told at school these are located right on the bumper (behind it) so look for loose wire!!! When you find them make sure to talk to a pro about putting them back together. Good Luck

The V6-powered base Camaro can sprint to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds, thanks to 300 horsepower, yet it costs the same as competitors like the considerably slower Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T. Heck, even the V6′s fuel economy is impressive compared to its competition. The V8-powered Camaro SS with the manual transmission dispenses with 60 mph in a blistering 5.0 seconds — 426 hp will do that for you — yet it’s considerably cheaper than cars like the BMW 135i and Challenger SRT8 and outperforms the slightly more affordable Mustang GT. The Camaro handles smartly, too, with even the base car surpassing the rarefied 68 mph mark on our slalom course.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro rocks. After years of anticipation, Chevy’s new Camaro not only lives up to the hype but also redefines what a muscle car can be. The traditional stereotype goes something like this — the affordable base model looks fast but goes slow due to a lumpy V6, while the V8-powered model will do apocalyptic burnouts in the high school parking lot but can’t corner to save its (or your) life. The latest Dodge Challenger comes uncomfortably close to this archetype, and the Ford Mustang is at least guilty on the V6 front.

We know the fuel pump is inside the gas tank. Is this pretty difficult to get at? Dropping the fuel tank seems easy enough once I siphon out the gas, but don’t you have to take out the fuel lines into the tank first? How many lines do I have to take off? I just glanced at them today and they look really hard to get at. Is it just a fitting that needs to be unscrewed on each line? Also, once I unhook the fuel lines and drop the tank, how do I get at the fuel pump inside the tank?

I’ll be the first to admit that I am definitely a beginner at mechanics. Would this be something I could handle? I am sick of paying hundreds of dollars in labor to get my vehicles worked on at repair shops. How do you replace a fuel pump on a 1992 Chevrolet K1500 4.3?

Answer:
It’s do-able, I replaced mine in 1991 C-2500. You will need the fuel line tool to get the fuel lines removed.

There is a ground wire attached to the frame above the axle that’s a pain in the *** to remove. It’s got a little bolt that’s usually rusted, and won’t turn. I just cut mine and put a crimped splice on it.

Removing the sending unit/fuel pump INNER lock ring on the tank is tricky because they seal it with some kind of tar like stuff. You may want to invest $20 on a Haynes manual. It’s the best money you could spend on your truck. Replace your fuel filter too. (below the drivers seat) inside the frame rail. Expect to spend half a day on this job.

By the way we were told that a rod bearing is bad in our engine and it will cost around $3,000 to repair. The oil has been changed every 3000 miles and the vehicle only has 87,000 miles on it. What is the best way to pull the engine for possible replacement or repair? The mechanic said we must have gotten a lemon because he’s heard very little in the way of problems. Other problems we’ve had repaired consist of wheel bearing replacement 4 times, defective sliding door, coolant leak, air conditioning stopped working a week after warranty was up and air bag system malfunction.

I had an extended warranty from GM on the motor only. We noticed a noise from the lifters and took it in for repair. It was supposedly repaired but one week after the repair, the rod bearing is damaged. Can anyone advise on how to proceed with this van?…short of a bonfire?

Answer:
Hi! By the way doesn’t your extended warranty cover this? 3K sounds high for a bearing replacement unless they are doing more than just that…I would check around for different shops to quote the job and see if it can be done without pulling the motor. You may have other problems with the motor once they get into the repair so it may not even be worth it to do.

Maybe check around at dealers to see what they would give you for trade-in value in it’s present condition. Some dealers like to do that because they can fix it at cost and make a profit on it if the van’s in good shape otherwise. Weigh the trade-in value as is versus what it would be worth if you spent the money to fix it.

Hello! I need to know how to change the spark plugs on a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier for my girlfriend. I was hoping someone could provide some sort of photo or diagram for how to access and repair and properly gap the spark plugs for this model of car. We’re getting ready to make a cross country trip in this car, unfortunately, and I would like to do some minor repairs before we head out. However, I’ve never worked on a Cavalier, so any help is appreciated.

Answer:
First you’ll need a 3/8 drive 5/8 deep-well magnetic socket from Auto Zone and a couple of 3/8 short extensions. Plan on replacing the spark plug wires if they’ve never been done also. Pick up AC-Delco wires and plugs from your local Chevrolet dealer. Twist the spark plug boots clockwise and counter clockwise before attempting to pull them off. When installing new spark plug wires wipe on some silicone ignition grease inside both boots on each wire.

Next spark plug gap should be .060 for the following brands and part # plugs for that car: NGK – N67164 or AC-Delco AC41-942.

I have 1992 Chevrolet Astro van problems, stalling while driving and at stop light also just tune it and change filter? If you have one and got it repaired. what was the problem.

Answer:
There can be several areas that are causing your problem. It can be in your engine timing, your distributor, your fuel system, in your coil, and your ECM.

By the way In older vehicles cars had an anti-stall dashpot on the carburetor. However, cars today use a fuel injection
system with almost everything under electrical control by the ECM. As a result there is generally a need to run a code check from your computer. (ECM = Electronic Control Module)

Next this is something you can do yourself if you have the knowledge, book, and if needed for your system, the code reader. For a 92 model you should be able to get the code by a simple jumper of the diagnostic connector, and to read the codes from the ECM on the Check Engine light.

To know how to do this would require you see how in a book. You can get a book at most auto parts stores that cover the method for most all cars, and what the codes stand for in your car. You might also get what you need to copy in your public library. They have books for most all vehicles, but they don’t loan them out, but you can copy what you need.

The converter is clogged and I’m thinking about putting a few holes in the top, and my transmission I want to drop the pan change the gasket and filter and put it back.

Answer:
By the way if by converter, you are talking about the torque converter, DO NOT put any holes in it. the best you can do is remove it from the tranny and have it flushed out by a reputable transmission shoop. but in all honesty, you really should replace it. there is no way of knowing if you there is any internal damage to the converter.

And if you are talking about the cat converter on the exhaust, don’t punch holes in the top. these create a lot of heat and you could burn through the heat shield. then the floor pan. if you don’t want or can’t replace it then you need to remove it and either install a pipe yourself ( a shop won’t do it) or punch out the ceramic grid that is inside the converter and reinstall the converter.

Anybody have problems with their 2000 Chevrolet Malibu overheating?
Our Chevy Malibu has been overheating anytime we drive it further than 2 or 3 miles. We already replaced the thermostat and the coolant cap, and added water/coolant. That didn’t help. I’ve asked around and it seems that it could be the water pump or the head gasket. Anybody else run into this problem? What did it cost to have it repaired?

Answer:
That car overheating that quickly I would lean towards a water pump. If it’s not addressed before overheating it real bad it will be a head gasket.

Answer:
The CV Axles are easy to do at the same time since you’ll have to release them from the hub anyway by unscrewing the retaining nut to do the ball joints. They should just slide right out.

You’ll need an air compressor and air chisel to remove the ball joints. They are riveted to the control arms and you need to grind the rivet heads off to remove them.
